The Jason Isbell Telecaster model hit the ground running with rave reviews from players and publications alike. Part of that was of course down to it’s tone, centred around a specially designed pickup set. It’s great to now see that pickup set available on the aftermarket with the Isbell signature tele pickup set! A really nice balance of modern neck tones and vintage bridge tones, the neck seeing a taller coil akin to a Strat and the bridge being based on Jason’s much loved vintage 60s Tele. Great specs, great sounds and a comfortable price tag too. They also have a light 'road worn' finish. Pleased to have them available here at the Home of Tone!

What Fender say;
“Armed with blistering guitar chops, incisive lyrics and a powerful voice, Grammy Award winner Jason Isbell has emerged as a leading face of the Americana movement - a dynamic blend of traditional roots music and modern rock.

Voiced by tone guru, Tim Shaw, the custom-designed Jason Isbell Signature Telecaster Pickups boast vintage-style parts wound hot with a touch of sparkle for the best of both Tele and Strat sounds. The bridge position is based on Jason’s ‘65 Telecaster pickup and delivers the twang, sparkle and fire Jason is known for while the neck pickup uses a slightly taller bobbin that allows for more winds, providing a touch of Stratocaster character."

Recommended wiring - Fender recommend for the JI pickup set to be paired with fairly traditional/commonly seen Tele specs of 250k pots and a 0.05uF(.047uF) tone cap. Ultimately, it is down to personal preference but seeing as this spec is pretty standard for a 60s onwards Tele I’d say this is a safe spec to run with.  For lots more information on Telecaster wiring specs and options, consider checking out my Tele pre-wired harnesses too.
