The American guitar maker PRS Guitars was officially founded in 1985, but the company's founder and namesake, Paul Reed Smith, has been making guitars since around 1975. Series production of the Custom 24 finally began in 1985. With former Gibson President Ted McCarty, Paul Reed Smith was able to gain an experienced consultant and the course was set for success for the guitars with the typical bird inlays in the fretboard .
